Leap year weddings!

Believe it or not, there are plenty of people getting married today/tonight on this leap day! Some people may say that celebrating an anniversary once every four years isn't bad. But then again, just because the 29th of February only occurs every 4 years doesn't mean you can't celebrate your wedding.

Getting married today can be a great thing though! Why? Well, unlike the other 365 days of a leap year, 2/29 can be viewed as extra special only because only a small percentage of weddings take place today. It's always nice to feel special, I think!

It's too late to book your wedding with us for 2/29/08 (haha) but call us up and book your 2/29 wedding for 2012! haha.

Oh and by the way, don't forget! TOMORROW March 1, 2008 is the last day to get a FREE disc containing ALL your wedding images when you book with us so call us! We would love to hear from you!

Happy birthday to all those leap year babies!

Cheers,
Samantha

Tip of the Day!

Some choose to hire a make-up artist for their wedding, some don't. For those of you who will be hiring someone to make you beautiful (even moreso!) for your big day, I highly suggest you set up a trial session before your wedding day.

Unless you've hired this person before, you really don't know how his/her awesome work will look on your face. Let's face it, make-up on one person can look really different on somebody else. So do that trial run before the date of your wedding to save from losing precious minutes before you walk down the aisle!

Stay warm (gotta love So Cal weather)!

Cheers,
Samantha

Cantina Light Pictures loves to give back!

Work keeps me busy but I find time to give back to the community. On April 26, 2008, I will be walking for the March of Dimes - March for Babies event in Los Angeles. Don't know what March of Dimes March for Babies is? Let me (with the help of Wikipedia) explain in a nutshell.

The March of Dimes is a charity whose mission is to improve the health of babies. These walks help raise funds for researching stress and other factors that may trigger preterm labor, providing programs to educate pregnant women to recognize the warning signs of preterm labor, providing tools to help health care providers find better ways to detect women who may be at risk for preterm labor, and much more.

I asked the "big guys" of Cantina Light Pictures if they would sponsor me and my walk in April and they just about brought out their checkbook right away!

Cantina Light Pictures has done their part so I'm asking you if you would help support me as well. I'm sure you all have heard that "every dollar helps" and well, the same applies here. Every dollar DOES help! Whether you can only spare $1, $25, or $500, you will be supporting a cause that will help improve the lives of babies.

Please visit www.marchforbabies.org/samjimenez to see how you can help. THANK YOU VERY MUCH, EVERYONE! And please, tell your friends about the March for Babies!

Cheers,
Samantha

Keeping your memories as grand as they were a silver anniversary ago

I went to the bank today on a regular visit to take care of some business. I was greeted by the same person who stands at the door and welcomes me in, I spoke with the same tellers, and it was business as usual. Only this time I took a few minutes to talk to the manager who stopped me on the way out.

She asked, "Hey Samantha, what is it you do for a living?" and of course I responded with owning a photography company. She was very intrigued at this for this reason:

She got married 25 years ago and basically her photo album that was supposed to last a lifetime and remind her of one of the biggest days of her life is very worn out. So she asked, "Does your company do anything in terms of restoring my memories?" And of course, Cantina Light Pictures does provide this service!

I told her that she can give me her album, I'll have the photos scanned, put it on a web-based slide show, and supply her with a new album. And let me tell you, she not only loved the fact that we can do this for her but also absolutely jumped at the fact that she can view her photos online! Long story short, she's very interested in getting this done!

Now if any of you have albums that are a bit worn and you would be interested in a better and more up-to-date presentation of your wedding memories, call us up and we'll be more than happy to help you. Photo albums should be irreplaceable and we'll do everything we can to make sure that that holds true.

Cheers,
Samantha

Be My Valentine: Part 2

Listen up, ladies. This blog's for you!

I know we all love to be spoiled but your man loves the attention as much as we do! He may not express it but that's how men are supposed to be. I guess? Not really. But hey, what are you going to do, right? haha.

So what little (and big) things can YOU do for your man to make him happy on this lover's holiday?

The following advice may seem a little strange considering "today's society" (and yes, that is in quotes because it is a very broad generalization) but hear me out anyway: When it comes to paying the tab at the restaurant, offer to pay. More often than not, he will insist on paying but it makes him think A LOT more of you as a person to offer. And yes, I'm speaking from experience. Worst case scenario, he actually accepts your offer to pay. So you have to spend an X amount of money for dinner--it's really not going to kill you. I hope not! In his eyes, you have just earned yourself MAJOR brownie points!

If you really want to impress him, just cook dinner yourself or even make a night of you two cooking together! Nothing says romantic like the two of you cooking in a kitchen lit up by the soft lights, burning candles, and fire burning in the next room. Well maybe there ARE more romantic things but cooking together is always cute. I've noticed that more and more women don't cook as often as they're "supposed" to (haha on "supposed" because hey, this is the new millenium and male/female gender roles are totally stretched) so even if you don't cook a 5-star meal, he'll love you for the effort.

Something else you can do to make your significant other happy is buying him a little something. I bet a lot of you gals already do this but if you don't, you may want to consider doing so. Get him something simple like a bottle of his favorite cologne, some boxers, or something along those lines. Cliche, maybe, but he appreciates these types of little gestures from you.

This is something a little more geared towards MY own liking but check this out: if there's a game playing on Thursday night (NBA, NHL, etc.), you may want to let your man watch it! This was never really a problem in relationships I've been in because I LOVE sports as much as guys do but it can be a problem for others. I know that Vday is supposed to be for lovers to share a romantic night together but if you let him watch the game for those 2.5 hours, he'll [hopefully!] appreciate it a lot and who knows, there may be a little more in store for you at a later time. hehe. Like I said, this is geared more for those who aren't necessarily into sports as much as their significant other is.

Oh and HERE'S the creme de la creme on how to make your man happy/earn yourself brownie points with him! LISTEN CAREFULLY! This is something that some women probably already do but I'm sure there are still people out there who DON'T do this. Are you paying attention? When he opens the car door for you and you get in, LEAN OVER AND OPEN HIS DOOR FOR HIM! It's a small, simple gesture that lets the guy know that you are serious about the relationship. Even if he doesn't mention anything, at least you know you're going that extra mile (even though it's not really a mile!) to let him know that you love him.

I lied. THIS is the creme de la creme. Make your Valentine's Day 2008 last by having pictures professionally taken by Cantina Light Pictures. Tell your friends about us! We'd love to be a part of making these unforgettable moments last a lifetime!

It's such a beautiful week in Orange County! Stay cool and well hydrated! Have a wonderful day!

Cheers,
Samantha

Be My Valentine

To all the male readers out there, this blog is for you.

If your significant other is a typical person who likes to get pampered, she would expect a big hoopla for Valentine's Day. Sure this isn't the case for every single lady out there but more often than not, she's going to want you to go the whole 9 yards in terms of roses, sweets, dinner, jewelry, and quite possibly a little dessert, too! Lucky for all you guys who procrastinate, I have some suggestions on what to give your Valentine.

Giving a girl some flowers for V-Day is almost a given but there are ways to make her go "aww" by doing some simple things. Valentine's Day falls on a Thursday this year so instead of doing the whole "bring-her-flowers-when-I-pick-her-up" thing, go a little further and take some extra time during your lunch to bring her flowers at work. Girls LOVE attention so when her fellow co-workers see you walking into her work with a vase of her favorite flowers, your significant other will get comments of how lucky she is to have you. It's a win-win situation, I think!

I'm going to stay away from the chocolate-giving and suggest something else to give your significant other as a sweet treat: cookie bouquets. Cookies by Design is one such company that does these cookie arrangements. I highly suggest you check it out. It's something different to give your lady! It can also be like killing two birds with one stone. If you get this cookie bouquet arrangement, you'll take care of the bouquet of roses and sweets aspects of V-Day.

If you haven't made a reservation for Valentine's Day dinner, I suggest you do it NOW (or at least after you read this blog). I want to suggest the place I love to eat: Gyu Kaku. It's a Japanese BBQ restaurant where you cook your own food. But hey, that's just my suggestion. Wherever you decide on going, be prepared for the long waits (even with a reservation!).

The jewelry suggestion is simple: Tiffany is your best friend.

In terms of dessert, I'll leave that up to you guys to decide. haha.

And of course I saved the best for last. Make this Valentine's Day last forever by having professional photos taken of you two! Oh and what a coincidence, Cantina Light Pictures can offer this for you! Call us today at (714) 265-7645 to set up an appointment with our fun, friendly, and professional staff!

Check out the blog on Monday for what you ladies can do for your Mr. Right! Of course we women expect our men to spoil us rotten on Valentine's Day but men love the attention too! Keeping them happy keeps us happy!

Happy Valentine's Day planning! Stay cool on this warm and sunny southern California weekend!

Cheers,
Samantha

Here's a tip for the day!

Since we were all little girls, we've known that our wedding is supposed to be one of the most important days of our lives, right? And gentlemen, your future spouses will vouch for this. ;) So what's ONE thing that will make that perfect day last a lifetime? That's right: the perfect photographer. Here's one tip I highly recommend you seek for when choosing that perfect photographer to make your wedding day unforgettable.

Make sure that your photographer can provide 8 hours of service.

I actually have a friend that is getting married this summer and she's only getting 5 hours of coverage!

Think about it ladies and gentlemen. If your wedding ceremony starts at 12:00pm, you're going to want the photographer there at least an hour beforehand so he/she can capture the moments of you getting ready. Fast forward to after the ceremony, the pictures that will be taken then PLUS the reception will probably start, say, around 5:00pm--wait, that's already exceeding the 5-hour coverage! What will you do then? Sure he'll stay an extra X amount of hours but he will charge an arm and a leg for each additional hour thereafter. I'd say no to that deal!

Luckily for YOU, Cantina Light Pictures (CLP) provides 8 hours of coverage for any and every photography package we offer! One of our mottos at CLP is the following: "Your pictures don't have to be pricey to be priceless." And we stand by that wholly.

Contact us today to set up an appointment! It would be our honor to be able to shoot your wedding. Talk to you soon! Have a WONDERFUL day!
